Lemme tell y’all something....I CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT MUSIC!!!! Music just makes everything a tad bit better. Even when I’m dealing with my depression. It helps me get through situations and hardships. It helps me express myself. Also, depending on what it is...gets my body moving!
For those who follow me on Instagram, I post some of my favorite songs on my story and put “Music Therapy” as the caption. Those moments I truly need to calm myself, create an environment that’s healthy for me to get my mind right, or simply to dance my feels away. Every individual has different outlets to help them cope, and music is definitely mines. I’ve always been surrounded by music all my life so it wasn’t hard to fall in love with the idea of allow music to be an outlet.
Fun fact: I played the trumpet for 3 1/2 years while in elementary school.
NOT MY FIRST CHOICE ! Point is, I fell in love with music at a very young age. Apparently being a band geek wasn’t “cool” at all back in the day. So I pretty much got bullied into thinking that I shouldn’t do something that I loved so much. So I stopped playing and even gave up on guitar too and became very shy about my singing voice. I literally just tell people I can’t sing nowadays so nobody ask me to. It put me in a place where I was trying to find other things to do so that I can have an outlet. I started dancing and even though dancing was another passion of mine, it still wasn’t the love I felt when there’s music being created. So instead of creating the music, I just listened to it and escape life for a while.
Not having an outlet can be very detrimental to your mental health. And having a passion for your outlet is crucial. Don’t let anybody or anything get in the way of things that make YOU happy. So f*ck the haters and do what you gotta do for YOU!
